Commercial Signs

Your commercial real estate signs are crucial in building visibility for your business, and while they are not inexpensive, a well-designed, attractive and durable commercial real estate sign can help differentiate your business from your competitors and is one of the most cost-effective marketing options.

Because commercial real estate signs are most often installed outdoors, they are prone to degradation due to the weather elements. Exposure to sun, rain, extreme temperatures, and snow can cause these signs to wear out and deteriorate over time. So, it’s important to ensure your commercial real estate signs are in a representative of your brand and are helping your business, not hurting it.

 Commercial Sign

When to replace old and worn-out commercial real estate signs? The main purpose of using commercial real estate signs is to make people aware of your available real estate listing, and that your company has been selected to represent it.  Commercial real estate transactions can take time though, and over time they will age, become worn-out, fade and no longer be clearly visible to your prospective customers (especially if your sign company opted for lesser media, and/or did not add a protective overlaminate).  This defeats the purpose these signs are intended to serve, i.e., advertise your business to potential customers. If your real estate signs are not visible or are unclear, prospective customers will not know what you are advertising and you may lose their business.  Worse yet, they will reflect poorly on your business.

There are two primary reasons that warrant replacing your older signs with new ones:

  1. Most commercial real estate signs are – which are made of pressed wood – and over time the edges can begin to deteriorate and fray. This is a reason to upgrade (and potentially consider upgrading to a more weather-resistant Dibond sign panel).
  2. But the primary cause for the need for new signs because the sign faces fade and degrades over time. Using premium media, coupled with the use of weather and UV resistant overlaminate will greatly increase the longevity of your new upgraded sign faces
  3. Sign size is another reason – chances are your sign is too small. Most signs are 4’x8’ in size, and seem huge when you order them.  But once installed, they can seem too small to capture the attention of passing motorists traveling at high speeds.  Consider enlarging to an 8’x8’ or 8’x12’ or larger to really make a statement.
  4. Changing landscape – If you are a general contractor, a realtor, a construction company, you probably know that the location of your commercial signage is critical in attracting new customers. Commercial signs with a higher visibility have greater success in attracting new customers. You could be losing potential customers if your commercial signs are no longer or are partially visible due to landscape growth, new construction or poor placement. If this happens, it is time to change their location to a place with greater visibility. You could choose to use your existing signs but it is recommended you replace your old signboards with new ones. The new location will attract new ‘sets of eyes’ and you wouldn’t want to send a wrong message by using old and worn-out signs.
